Heather Havrilseky reviews Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir: “Rather than ushering us sweetly into the land of personal storytelling, then, Karr prefers to shove us off a cliff and into an inky abyss.”
This isn’t a review. It’s just a link to the website for Dinty Moore’s new book, Dear Mister Essay Writer Guy. If you don’t already know who Dinty Moore is, you should. And how can you resist a book that has the words “Essay Writer Guy” in the title?
Since we’re talking about Dinty, here’s a blog post on Brevity by Allison Williams on how to make the most out of a writing conference. (Keep this in mind for the CNFC conference in Banff, April 2016!)
CNFC’s past president Cathy Ostlere contributes to Oscar’s Salon. We will say no more. This is a project best left to be discovered, rather than introduced.
John McPhee talks about “choosing what to leave out” in the New Yorker:
“Writing is selection. Just to start a piece of writing you have to choose one word and only one from more than a million in the language. Now keep going. What is your next word? Your next sentence, paragraph, section, chapter? Your next ball of fact.”
